Kenya, Nairobi. (news of The South) – The East African leader President Uhuru Kenyatta drove Nyayo stadium for the Madaraka Day celebrations in a new armoured bullet proof – glassed vehicle as threats of terror are on the rise in Nairobi.
Previously Kenyatta with his aide-de-camp and the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Julius Karangi rode on a Toyota Land Cruiser that had enhanced security features.
The new move is set to combat the prevailing terror threat.
“We cannot say he has shifted to the East because his executive and all other officials arrived in European made cars. There were Mercedes Benz, BMW, VW and many other European and American made cars,” explained the officer who asked not to be named.
The official added they decided to use the other armoured cars for security reasons based on intelligence that had been gathered without elaborating.
There was tight security as Kenyatta`s Presidential motorcade snaked from State House to Nyayo Stadium in less than five minutes.
Kenyatta rode in the new green military Land Cruiser and drove around the stadium as he saluted the crowd before inspecting a guard of honour.
