President Mnangagwa Re-assigns Permanent Secretaries

HARARE – In a move aimed at optimizing the delivery of public services, His Excellency the President has approved the re-assignment of five Permanent Secretaries across several key government ministries.

The announcement was made by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr. M. Rushwaya, in a statement dated April 30, 2026. The re-assignments are being carried out in accordance with Section 205(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

New Appointments and Portfolios

The following senior officials have been assigned to new roles:

Mr. Simon Masanga: Permanent Secretary for Environment, Climate and Wildlife.

Dr. Thomas Utete Wushe: Permanent Secretary for Mines and Mining Development.

Amb. Tadeous T. Chifamba: Permanent Secretary for Industry and Commerce.

Mr. Pfungwa Kunaka: Permanent Secretary for Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare.

Prof. Obert Jiri: Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development.

Implementation Date

According to the official release, all re-assignments will take effect starting tomorrow, May 1st, 2026.

The reshuffle comes at a critical time as the government continues to streamline its administrative functions to enhance efficiency in the public sector. These Permanent Secretaries are expected to lead their respective ministries in implementing strategic national goals and addressing pressing departmental challenges.
