Harare, Zimbabwe (News Of The South) –
“I therefore declare Tripartite Negotiating Forum platform and the Act officially launched and commissioned” President E. D Mnangagwa said at the official launch held at Rainbow Towers in Harare. “This is how it shall be in the Second Republic.”
The Tripartite Negotiating Forum (TNF) was launched yesterday, bringing together the Government, Business and Labour sectors to tackle the economic challenges. It has been in existence since 1998 focusing on socio economic issues facing the country as a voluntary and unlegislated chamber.
Various stakeholders from the Government, Business and Labour sectors witnessed the TNF bill launch which was signed by the President following its passage in parliament last week.
The legal bill has been commended as crucial in curbing the economic difficulties that the country faces. President E D Mnangagwa said it is crucial that all stakeholders are transparent and hold each other accountable for the conferred duties each has to play in reviving the economy. “Let us collaborate with ideas and come with win win solutions for the betterment of our citizens” he stated.
The Government looks forward to an enriching cooperation amongst social partners in curbing the economic challenges for the development of the country as whole. The act is set to create a platform for discussions for viable economic solutions, given the accelerating prices that are affecting the country. The passing of the TNF bill is believed to help address the deteriorating values of income for workers which is inflicting suffering on Zimbabweans.
Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union President, Mr. Peter Mutasa applauded the move in launching the TNF platform in such a harsh economic phase the country finds itself in. He stated that transparency and accountability would take the country to a better place if executed by everyone. In light of economy betterment programs that have been tried, he said those could not accomplish the set goals for the economy as a broader based participation and the TNF is what the nation needs. He has high hopes for the establishment of the TNF, hoping that the results would be economically fruitful for the country.
Another stakeholder who commended the government for passing the Act, Mr. Israel Marefu represented the Employees Confederation of Zimbabwe. He said there is a need in shared values for a country’s progression and in launching the forum, the social dialogue is a fulfilment of the aspirations of the international labour organisation.
Mr. Marefu highlighted some of the challenges that require the TNF to address, also emphasizing on the sincerity amongst stakeholders. Challenges such as poor water and power supply, corruption and the increased cost of production.
