The Portuguese Champions FC Porto succumbed to their first Primeira Liga loss following their 1-0 defeat against Academica on Saturday at the Estadio Cidade de Coimbra.
Fc Porto had last lost a Liga match in January 2012, have now registered three matches without a win after being beaten by Academica side who only won three times this season and had not defeated Porto in 43 years.
Fernando Alexandre was the hero of the night as he notched his second goal of the season just before half-time to set his side break the 43-year jinx.
The champions pressurised the host in the later stages of second half but it was to no avail as the Academica team remained resolute. Porto have won only one of their last six matches in all competitions including a draw with Austria Vienna in midweek.
Sporting Lisbon and Benfica may leapfrog Porto on Sunday if they beat Rio Ave and Pacos Ferreira.
