Police Constable Shoots And Kills His Boss
Uganda. – A police constable has shot his boss dead and injured one civilian in Soroti district.
The officer identified as Emmanuel Obbo shot dead Michael Orukan, the OC police post Arapai Ginnery and injured a one Emmanuel Opolot, who is currently admitted at Joint Clinic in Soroti town.
The incident happened on Sunday evening in Arapai Ginnery police post located along Soroti- Lira high way.
According to the regional police spokesperson in East Kyoga, Mr Juma Hassan Nyene, the suspect (Obbo) has since fled with his gun.
Mr Nyene explained that the suspect opened fire at around 8:30 pm when he found Mr Opolot filing a case against him. The suspect is said to have earlier had a disagreement with Mr Opolot in a drinking joint.
“After seeing the civilian reporting the case to the OC at the post, Obbo picked his gun and shot at the OC who died instantly and then the civilian now admitted at Joint Clinic,” Nyene said.
Mr Nyene told the press that the body of the deceased has been taken to Soroti Regional Hospital mortuary pending further arrangements for burial as investigations continue to have the suspect arrested.
He called on members of the public to help the police arrest the suspect whom he said could have committed the offence under the influence of alcohol.
By press time, the police had sealed off the crime scene and journalists were not allowed to take pictures.
