Mourning Period After Mozambique Plane Crash Declared

Mozambique’s government has declared a period of national mourning to honour 33 people who perished when Flight TM470 crashed in Namibia on November 29.

The victims include ten Mozambicans, nine Angolans, five Portuguese, a Chinese national, a French and a Brazilian.

Mozambique’s Minister of Transportation and Communications Gabriel Muthisse on Saturday told journalists that the government decided to declare a national mourning following this horrific accident.

“In the name of the government of Mozambique, we want to express our condolences to the affected families for this sad incident,” he said.

The accident occured the very time that African Nations are striving to erase negative reputation of accidents related to African airlines.

Only five African countries and their airlines are permitted to fly over the European Union (EU) space, some have been banned due safety concerns.
