Pasuwa released the names of the cream of the Zimbabwean football spiced with talent and quality players.Calisto’s selection was very broad considering that he chose his desired players local and from those plying their trade outside the country. It will be an uphill task and headache for the former Dynamos fc player and coach to come up with the finest players from the provisional squad.
Pasuwa has to trim his squad to a required sizeable number of 23 members. This will be a difficult and cautious time for the shrewd tactitiàn,taking into consideration that all the players called up for training are equally great and good players whom any coach in this world can envy to have them in his squad.
The abundance of talent in Zimbabwean football has in years caused a major concern when it comes to selection, who to drop and who to take on board. At this juncture all eyes are on the Zimbabwean warriors gaffer Calisto Pasuwa on how he is going trim and screen his squad, the criteria that he will use, whether he is going to use the current form of the individual current player performance or the history of players, experience or where that player is based, locally or overseas.
Pasuwa was bold enough to name a young and locally crop of goalkeepers to select his best goalminders from the listed four(4) that is Takava Mawaya,Denovan Bernard,Tatenda Makuruva and Nelson Chadya. These are quite energic young players are doing well in their respective clubs and there is still future in football to look forward from them.It shows that Pasuwa has set his eyes not only in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations but has more plans beyond with this squad.
Calisto Pasuwa has included the tried and tested players in his provisional squad the likes of Onosimo Bhasera,Costa Nhamoinesu,Oscar Machapa,Danny Phiri,Willard Katsande,Knowledge Musona,Marvellous Nakamba,Khama Billiat,Tendai Ndoro,Nyasha Mushekwi,Cuthbert Malajila and others, whilst the likes of Marshal Mudehwe,Ronald Chitiyo,Talent Chawapiwa,Tendai Ndlovu,Elisha Muroiwa and Tinotenda Kadewere were included due to hardworking, current perfomance locally and abroad even though they are considered as warriors fringe players comparing with the likes of Danny Phiri,Willard Katsande,Khama Billiat,Costa Nhamoinesu and Knowledge Musona just to mention a few who are the key players and formed an integral part of the Warriors.
In preparation of the AFCON,Zimbabwe might field a locally based side against Ivory Coast due to the inavailability of foreign based players who are still committed to their clubs except Tinotenda Kadewere who is in the country for the festive season. Moreover on another note a major boost for the warriors after the ZIFA President Philip Chiyangwa made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean in football circles to land such a top post in the Southern Region football and become the COSAFA President.
Mr Chiyangwa was elected unopposed to the post after the withdrawal of Danny Jordan and the outgoing President Suketo Partel who did not seek reelection after the expiry of his tenure.Furthermore Mr Chiyangwa revealed that there is a sponsor for the national team (warriors)to the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. This gives Pasuwa and his troops assurance that all is well ahead of the competition. It is for the coach to play his cards well and come up with a well balanced, good squad from the provisional squad.
On paper Pasuwa has got the arsenal to take the Nation to the promised land come Gabon 2017.The majority of the players has seen it all in the field of play and they can withstand the heat regardless of the situation, place and atmosphere. Moreover, the coach himself Callisto Pasuwa has been there for a long time as a player, coach and has won titles, excelled in many football battles.
