By Zimfirst Party.

It is very easy and very cheap to proclaim that you are fighting for DEMOCRACY. All it takes is either a microphone or a keyboard to make that proclamation. But practicing democracy in real life is what matters most and requires a lot of personal commitment and high level of personal integrity.

It is sad to note that many in opposition politics think that they are not beholden to the tenets of democracy before they are the government. Many free wheel on social attacking and hurling insults at anyone who does not subscribe to their politics. The personal attacks and verbal abuses and threats of violence hurled at new opposition parties and their members or dissenter here on social media betrays the hypocritical nature of their proclamation of democracy fighters.

The fear that is brought on new opposition parties is reminiscent the physical violence brought to Zimbabweans by ZANU PF in its heydays. There is absolutely no reason why ZimFirst, ZAPU or any other party that is not MDC A should justify its desire to be the alternative government. Zero! The personal attacks on opposition members who do not subscribe to MDC A politics smack of dictatorial tendencies. Only dictatorship threaten, abuse other simply because they differ ideologically. For example at ZimFirst we are open to criticism that aimed at our ideas, our proclamations or actions.

That’s democracy. We encourage that because that is how we get better. What is not acceptable is for other opposition parties to be attacked for solely existing outside what is considered the main opposition. Please remember UANC was once the main opposition in Zimbabwe. ZANU’s MO is to attack dissent using fabricated accusations in order to destroy their credibility or existence. We have been similarly attacked by people using same tactics.

Leaders should be on the forefront reigning supporters when they go off the rail. Case in point, the attacks on MDC’s Douglas Mwonzora are gut wrenching. There should have no place in organizations that purport to fight for democracy. It is impossibly to bring democracy coming from dictatorial fighting corner. There is no Bible that says Zimbabwe shall only have ZANU and MDC A or any other single party as the only opposition. In fact, those in opposition who are out trolling, verbally insulting those who are merely speaking out their opinions have no place in the democratic trenches. It is the duty for us in leadership to educate our members on the tenets of democracy.

If Zimbabwe is to be transformed for the better, the charity begins at home and that home is within the opposition movements. Accept criticism and work to improve and not stifle critics.

Zimbabwe cannot afford another dictatorship and the tale tell signs are a galore here social media where our persons have been attacked from simply falling out with our original parties. Without facts everyone who oes not praise sing the so called major opposition is labeled CIO or ZANU PF projects. Crass accusations but they are made by those proclaim to be fighting for democracy and gain traction on social media.

The desires for ZimFirst to see a better Zimbabwe are the same as any other genuine opposition. So let me reiterate this; those who are making names in social media by insulting the persona of other political leaders because they do not praise their dear leader I call upon you to start practicing what you preach. It is time you all walk the talk on what you preach other wise you are fighting to install another dictatorship and we will speak out and fight it too.
