The manner in which everyone across the globe appears to have surrendered themselves to the caprices of other people – whom we consider to be ‘more knowledgeable’, ranging from scientists, politicians, and religious leaders, to even our own doctors, and teachers – is frightening, as if we had become brainless zombies or robots, who merely sit there, whilst we are programmed on what to think, and how to think.

It’s such a shame.

Never has this dilemma been so apparent than during this COVID-19 pandemic, where the world appears to have freely handed their lives over to scientists – without any questions.

What type of people have we become?

If I am not feeling well, for instance, and had to visit a medical doctor – honestly, why would I lamely sit there, idly answering his or her questions, lamely having tests done on me, then passively accepting any diagnosis given, and receiving any medical advice, procedures, and medication?

Would that not seem seriously odd?

Shouldn’t a normal person, with a some brains, firstly conduct their own research regarding whatever would be ailing them; visit their doctor with, at least, some basic understanding of the possible illness; ask him or her any relevant questions, based on their prior research, and what the doctor would have said; note down everything that he or she would have said, and return home to do more thorough and in-depth research, on both the diagnosis provided, and possible treatment methods; when satisfied, I would then discuss with the doctor on the best way forward – taking into account what I would have independently researched, and what he or she would be suggesting – thereby, reaching a mutually agreed well-informed treatment method?

Nonetheless, with the way we have sadly chosen to be so docile and submissive, esp with our own lives, to other people, is nothing short of catastrophic and foolhardy.

Surely, wouldn’t it be prudent to be active participants and inputters on decisions concerning our own lives?

So, why do we witness a world full of people who readily accept hook, line, and sinker, whatever they are told by their chosen ‘knowledgeable’ people – with virtually scant interest in questioning, and independent research?

This is most conspicuous during this age of the COVID-19 pandemic, climatic change, etc – whereby, when a scientist says jump, all we ask is, “How high”.

I am shocked that, a whole species that prides itself above all other creatures, could actually be the least amongst all things that breathe.

Surely, shouldn’t more intellect be expected from us? *_- Tendai Ruben Mbofana_*
