Open Letter to President Mnangagwa

By D. J. Simba Mdavanhu.

I salute you President Mnangagwa. I love you as my father and respect you as a leader in authority. I submit to the authority of your higher office of the land of Zimbabwe.

This week has been an interesting one; first I read an article about you emphasizing that death penalty in Zimbabwe should be abolished.

Thank you father for upholding such a decision that values human life. God will sure bless any leader who observes the sanctity of life.

Nonetheless, your subjects, Your Excellency, are worried about the death penalty your economic policies have sentenced them. Absence of political and economic reforms has brought untold suffering to citizens, leaving them with no option but to protest through scathing messages against your office and personality on social media.

Some men of cloth calling themselves apostles and prophets launch spirited attacks on public or on social media. I personally don’t condone such behaviour, where individuals like one Apostle Talent Chiwenga would incessantly lash at your personality with invective tongue, but I think you need to sit down with such people and hear them out.

Citizens are not happy with the way the army and police are treating them. We look up to them as our last line of defence and protection, but it seems they now instil fear in us.

When citizens are shot dead in broad day light by the army and the police, isn’t the hangman’s noose better than the death sentence army and police brutality has sentenced us to?

Secondly I was excited to hear that you, Our President, has declared 15 June a national day of fasting and prayers. What a sweet story it sounded to my ears! Other nations will envy us for having a God fearing leader in you.

However, Your Excellency, your subjects are smarting from the nightmares brought by the events of 1 August 2018 and January 2019,where their loved ones were gunned down while protesting.

They think you should have apologised to the nation about this mishap and compensate the families of the deceased. If this chapter remains unclosed, do we expect God to hear and answer our prayers.

The Monthlante Commission recommended that you bring to book the trigger happy soldiers who shot protesters “at 45°” but up to now no one have been arraigned before the courts over the shooting( killings). This is what God says to us:

2 Chronicles 7:13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 7:15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place.

Some problems we ponder over are God driven. Locusts are sent in form of tattered economy, political instability, polarity, famine and poverty, if we mess with God.

Let’s look behind and see where we may have gone wrong for God to punish us this way. Once we abandon evil, God will hear and save us.

Economic woes we have now can be easily be solved by doing what is right. When you decided to reintroduce Zim dollar, economists warned that it will not work since we have no necessary conditions needed for it.

You were adamant that we can’t operate without our own currency, which was right, but Mr President, it’s not working. The reserve bank governor once fixed the exchange rate of US dollar to ZW dollar at 1:25. Again economist warned it will not work but Mr Mangudya had his way.

He later reversed the policy and left to the market to determine. It didn’t work. Your government is receiving relentless calls from all sectors of economy to revert to US dollar economy but it’s falling on deaf ears.

I tell you, you’ll acquiesce to the demands, but it will be too late. I once heard you saying you are a “listening President” – I suggest you live to the expectations of your office by listening to people’s demands.

This will save the tumbling economy, without fasting and praying. Jesus says prayers are received when we’ve made peace with our fellow men.

Matthew 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 5:24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

This is an admonition to anyone who wish to offer prayers to God. What help will it be to us if we seek forgiveness from God without having made peace with whoever we may have wronged.

Mr President a lot of people are crying as a result of your strong thump on their necks. They can’t breathe, they are suffocating to death.

Please do the right thing to dialogue for peace before you rally the nation for fasting and prayers. I suggest the following;

– public apology for the army shootings of 2018&2019
– arrests and prosecution of members of the army who gunned down civilians
– stop abductions of opposition members
-stop unwarranted arrests of opposition members and lawyers on cooked up charges
– stop issuing threats to dissenting voices through minister Kazembe Kazembe
– compensate the families of the deceased who were shot by the army.
– stop human rights violations

The above are some of many things that can be done to make peace and we can move forward with clean hearts to offer our prayers.

Without good political and economic policies, prayers won’t work a miracle.

I support you 100%:Your Excellency, and I hope you’ll listen to your subjects.
