The oldest Nigerian living in the UK, Gabriel Lemoshe turns 100 on March 15 and scores of dignitaries are expected to attend his centenary.


Pa Gabriel Lemoshe, who was born at the Sacred Heart Catholic Hospital, Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria.

The 99-year-old, one of the founding members of the Egba United Society in the UK, “formed to unite Egba Sons, Daughters, In-Laws and Friends for unity and development of Egbaland”, has been living in the UK since 1941.

The Egba society has announced plans to mark Lemoshe’s birthday by inviting dignitaries to the celebration.

The Egba society have also sent forms to the Queen so she can send the traditional personal letter to Lemoshe, as she does for all British citizens who manage to reach the ripe age of 100.

Chief Yemisi Sanusi of the Egba United Society, a family friend and the chairperson of the organising committee, said that the event will be the first of its kind ever.

He said: “We are asking everyone who is coming to pay a token fee of £30 each as we hope to make it a grand occasion with entertainment and good food.

“We are also hoping to attract some sponsors who will (be) free to advertise their products in the programme we will be printing.”
