(NRFA is just Another Bunch of Confusionists – Mithi)
BY DRAXON MALOYA.
Malawi (News Of The South) – Barely a few days after committing serious errors in the administration of football by among others handing bans and fines to officials of Baka City Football Club without a proper hearing, the Northern Region Football Association has committed another blunder.
Over the weekend the leagues General Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu made an official announcement that the association has endorsed the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) vice president, James Mwenda as their torch bearer at this year’s football governing body’s elective general assembly in December.
The endorsement comes following a meeting which Mwenda conducted with some football administrators in the region over the weekend, asking for their support during the December elective FAM Indaba.
“We have agreed to support James Mwenda on the position of FAM president come the elective general assembly because he has the agenda which is just in tandem with the wishes of the NRFA and we won’t support any candidate apart from him,” Nyasulu said.
Ironically, the FAM vice president is on record having told the media at the Mzuzu stadium on Saturday afternoon that he is not yet ready to talk more about his candidature because his manifesto is not yet out.
“I don’t want to be quoted wrongly here about my candidature in the FAM presidential race because my manifesto is not yet out, and you members of the media shall be the first to be informed when the document is out,” Mwenda said.
And commenting on his working relationship and the successes of FAM executive committee, Mwenda could not hide words but rather praised the team as one of the best and vibrant he has ever seen in the country’s football history.
“As a team we have delivered and a lot of lessons learnt whenever am involved in the football development programs, and it has always been exiting during the 20 years I have been doing this and our football has grown,
“You know at FAM we have a wonderful team, working and making decisions together for the development of our game. The affiliates have been so amazing each time we worked with them,” Mwenda said.
But one of the country’s soccer analysts Julius Mithi has the described the move taken by the NRFA as childish and lack intellectual capacity.
“How can they endorse someone before appreciating what other candidates have in their manifestos? After all even Mwenda’s manifesto is not yet out and above all how many candidates have they scrutinized?
“It is very unfortunate that someone made an endorsement without the general consensus of the NRFA executive committee am forced to believe that this move is just a mere opinion of the association’s general secretary,” Mithi said.
Despite the creation of a political field in their fold, NRFA runs the least sponsored regional football league in the country with a sponsorship of Mk5 million from Simama and Sons which is far too little even as compared to the primary school mayors trophies across the country.
