Malawi. (News of The South) – The official opposition in Malawi’s parliament, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has taken the house at ransom following it’s failure to come up with it’s leader in the house who by now would have responded to president Peter Mutharika’s state of the nation address (Sona) he presented on Friday.
The MCP legislatures boycotted Mutharika’s Sona calling him an illegitimate president for what they say were serious irregularities in the just ended presidential election.
Meanwhile the United Democratic Front (UDF) has settled for the party’s veteran female parliamentarian Lilian Patel as their leader in the house following the absence of their president in the house Atupele Muluzi who tumbled in the parliamentary elections.
The spokesperson of the UDF Ken Ndanga confirmed that the party has settled for the veteran female parliamentarian as it’s leader in the August house.
“We have indeed settled for hourable Lilian Patel as our leader in the house,” Ndanga said.
And commenting on the issue the MCP spokesperson Maurice Munthali said his party was busy with the court case but will soon choose it’s leader in the house very soon.
“We were somehow preoccupied as you are aware that we’re challenging the presidential election results in court but soon we shall make an announcement,” Munthali said.
The United Transformation Movement (UTM) is also yet to come up with the leader for it’s four legislatures in the house.
The party leaders in the house are expected to respond to president Mutharika’s state of the nation address which some observers have already described as not new and lack proper vision.
