No Reforms No Elections: Morgan Tsvangirai
By Martin Muleya.
Mutare, Zimbabwe. (News Of The South) Leader for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) shade, Morgan Tsvangirai blasted Zanu Pf for its continued misrule that has seen several people losing jobs in the recent weeks.
Addressing hundreds of supporters at Rimbi business centre in Chipinge last Saturday, where he had attended the memorial service of Senator Josiah Rimbi, the MDC- T leader reiterated that Zanu PF led by President Robert Mugabe stole the July 2013 general elections without making any reforms that were recommended in the new Constitution.
He noted that his party was not willing to take part again in the shamed elections scheduled to take place in 2018 before the reforms are done.
“Zimbabwe is currently facing a lot of problems mainly caused by Mugabe’s administration. We have problems of politics, victimization of citizens as well as deliberately killing the hope of the future of the people of Zimbabwe while Mugabe is still at the helm of the government.
“We have voted for many years yet Mugabe is refusing to relinquish power. This time as MDC-T party we are saying we will not take part in the next 2018 general elections, if there are no reforms implemented in line with the new Constitution, fumed Tsvangirai.
He challenged the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to be independent if it still wishes to desires to be a credible electoral body.
The tough and outspoken opposition leader whose support is growing with each passing day warned Zanu Pf that his party will not for the second time agree to get into a coalition pact.
Tsvangirai said in 2008 his party enter into a sharing pact with the ruling Zanu Pf so as to help the suffering general populace who had been subjected to hunger and despair by Zanu Pf’s misrule and election fraud.
“We are not saying we do not want elections. As a party we believe that we should remove Zanu Pf from power through the ballot box and not by using bullet. We helped Zanu Pf during the 2008 general elections not because we wanted power but we wanted to help the citizens of this country who had been reduced to beggars,” added the MDC-T leader.
