Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of the South)- Zimbabwean Politician and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) founder and President Tendai Biti said Southern Africa no longer have good leaders anymore.
He tweeted his remarks following the arrest of United Party for National Development leader, Mr Hakainde Hichilema in April for allegedly obstructing the motorcade of President Edgar Lungu.
“BitiTendai, the continued unlawful detention of Hakainde Hichilema by Zambian authorities is unacceptable and proof that moral leadership is SADC is gone.
Mr Hichilema was charged with treason
Biti took his anger to social media, castigating African leaders who no longer holds democratic principles towards their country and citizens but only holds power to themselves.
He blamed Zambian authorities for unlawfully arresting Hichilema,
indicating that moral leadership in SADC has gone for good.
Meanwhile South African, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Leader Julius
Malema also issued a statement yesterday, urging Zambian President
Edgar Lungu to practise good democratic principles by releasing an innocent leader Hichilema from prison.
“The Economic Freedom Fighters notes with grave concern the arrest of
Zambian opposition leader of United Party for National Development, Mr
Hakainde Hichilema.
“The EFF calls for immediate release of Mr Hichilema. If President Lungu wishes to retain any moral gravity and political sensibility to emancipate people of Zambia, he must do the right thing, intervene and ensure that Mr Hichilema is released and all charges are dropped with immediate effect.
