Flight crew became suspicious and contacted police who transferred the boy to child protection services after the aircraft landed.
A nine-year-old boy was able to get through security and on to a plane at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport without a ticket.
Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman Patrick Hogan said security screened the boy at the airport shortly after 10.30am on Thursday.
He then boarded a Delta flight that left for Las Vegas at 11.15am.
Mr Hogan said the flight crew became suspicious and contacted Las Vegas police, who met the crew upon landing and transferred the boy to child protection services.
Video also showed the boy at the airport on Wednesday, Mr Hogan said.
The child allegedly grabbed a bag from the carousel and ordered lunch at a restaurant outside of the security checkpoints.
He ate and then told the server he had to use the bathroom, left the bag and apparently never returned to pay.
