The Argentine superstar Lionel Messi is worried that his Brazilian team-mate’s injury may keep him out of action for a longer period after the former Santos boy twisted his ankle in Thursday’s Copa del Rey 2-0 win over Getafe.
Neymar, 21 , injured himself after he fell awkwardly in Barca’s 6-0 aggregate win over Getafe and he was stretchered off the field of play just before half-time.
Messi, who has barely returned from a long spell of injury is optimistic that the Brazilian star can return to playing immediately.
“What happened to Neymar is a real shame,” Messi told reporters after the match.
“We believe it is not serious, we need him, he’s important for the team.”
The Brazilian’s injury came as a blessing in disguise as the limelight has been shifted away from Messi in last night’s victory, as the Argentine netted a brace in the second leg last-16 match and he thinks he is still recovering from his injury.
“I feel better, but not 100% of my best,” he said.”I need more time to play to retain my old glory days.”
The Catalan giants will face Levante in a hat-trick of matches beginning with Sunday’s la liga, before meeting in two consecutive midweek in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.
