Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – ZIMBABWEAN poet, short story writer and News of The South journalist, Richmore Tera has been appointed as the Ambassador of the Word in Zimbabwe by the Spanish-based non-profit organisation, the Cesar Egido Serrano Foundation for his role of promoting peace, interaction and dialogue through his writings.

Dated November 16, 2017, the diploma read: “The Cesar Egido Serrano Foundation is proud to appoint Mr Richmore Tera Ambassador of the Word in support of the cause, ‘Words as a bond of humankind’.”
Tera said he was happy to receive the honour.
“I am thrilled to receive the diploma appointing me the Ambassador of the Word in my country. Zimbabwe is full of many talented writers but being selected for this honour shows that my work is being appreciated somewhere.
“I hope our relationship (with the Foundation) will be more fruitful. And congratulations for the overwhelming number of entrants in their micro-fiction contest,” he said, alluding to a flash fiction contest which the Foundation also organized for international writers and whose results shall be announced 2018.
The contest – which has since closed and which was open to writers drawn from around the globe writing in any of the four languages of English, Spanish, Arabic and Hebrew – will see the top winner receiving a grand prize of US$20,000, while three runners-up will each receive $1000.
This year, the contest ran under the theme, ‘The Word, bridging the gap between different cultures and religion’.
Ambassadorial role, Tera shall be responsible for organising activities to do with the Word in Zimbabwe, in line with the Foundation’s mission of promoting “art and the use of dialogue as a tool to achieve peace between different cultures and religions.”
Some of the Foundation´s Board of Trustees include Narciso Ntugu Abeso, former Ambassador of Guinea, the Ambassadors of Cyprus, Egypt and Croatia, the journalist Raul del Pozo and the politician Enrique Mugica Herzog, while Maria Dolores de Cospedal is the Honorary Chairman of the institution.
The Museum of Words was established on 23 November 2009 by the President of Castilla la Mancha region, Spain, José María Barreda Fontes and on that day the Museum also awarded prizes of the first edition of the Flash Fiction Competition, thus turning it into the International Day of Words.
