Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) The new political climate in Zimbabwe has resulted in the country becoming a fast growing destination for American tourists most of whom are only familiar with the Victoria Falls and wild life parks, an American delegation of Travel Operators revealed.
Speaking to journalists in Harare this afternoon, the operators sad they have been doing business in Africa and at times sending clients to Zimbabwe but with the increase in numbers of interested clients they have come to explore the country’s tourist destinations first hand.
“I’ve sent numerous clients to Zimbabwe before and I’ve been to Victoria Falls before but other than Victoria Falls this is the first opportunity I’ve had to travel around the country of Zimbabwe and it is becoming a more popular destination for our clients.
“As I said I’ve had numerous clients here and they all have had good experiences but again the reason I’m here is first hand relationships, getting to know people first hand and being able to see destinations that you can really bring things to life when you are discussing with the clients,” said Michael Sailor one of the operators.
He added that many years ago Zimbabwe was a top safari destination where Americans and Europeans would come but due to political reasons over the past decades that has not been the case as fewer and fewer Western tourists have come to Zimbabwe.
“Now that your political climate has changed again, people are now anxious again to say ‘Okay we were in Zimbabwe before it used to be a great destination now it seems to be safe to come again,’ so there is a renewed interest in Zimbabwe,” Sailor said.
The operators will aso attend the Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism Expo which they regarded as a good way of bringing business to the country as foreign players can interact with many people in the tourism sector in one place.
