By Masimba Mukichi.

As morning sun shines in the nervous sky,
The hungry birds zipped off to sip nectar.
Guide dogs with enthusiasm led the visually
Impaired to polling booths
Voters rushed to vote like a tornado,
Their faces bright like a Daisy.
Like ants they wanted to make the most of
the glowing light and vote before the winged
moths roam the sky.
Their living conditions were as tough as hearing
the breath of a snail
They were eager to vote for change that delivers
As dawn breaks over the Garden of Eden
their eyes began to form deep and grey clouds
before they drop tears as big as hailstones,
As they realised that the vote was rigged,
and their votes were just a drop in a spider web
of necklace of dew.
Their preferred candidate was never to take
them to the lush green Garden of Eden.
In awe they wriggled like maggots about to form
wings, for they knew that the light for a better
future has faded from bright blue to pale grey,
and their future may never turn copper green.
