Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) -Netone has chipped in by providing free breast cancer screening to Mabvuku residents to fill the void that often comes with busy working schedules and transport costs to travel to screening centres.

Mabvuku residents maintained a moderate pace as they came in at New Mabvuku clinic to utilize the opportunity Netone had brought on their door step. Although the majority were women, men too also came in their numbers including renowned boxing champion Charles Manyuchi.

In an interview with News of the South online news, Executive Public Relations Officer, Dr Elderette Shereni said Netone wanted to make sure there was no excuse for not getting screened for breast cancer saying this exercise was crucial to everyone who is usually pressed for time to visit screening centres.

“We are saying if you are busy or cannot afford transport money to go and get screened, there is no excuse, we will avail the services on your door step.

“Let’s not tolerate a culture of going to seek medication when we are bed ridden, as Netone we are promoting prevention and seeking early treatment by giving the services for free, ensuring there is no excuse and at no fee,” said Dr Shereni.

Dr Shereni decried the poor attendance by men saying they should be at the forefront on issues to do with their health.

Breast Cancer Association of Zimbabwe General Manager Ms Junior Mavu said people should shift from the mindset that cancer is a ‘rich man’s disease’. She commended the support Netone was showing in ensuring that people adopt a health seeking behavior.

“Our funding is really on the low therefore what Netone has done is commendable and will go a long way in elevating our core business,” said Ms Mavu.

She also encouraged men to come in their numbers to get screened saying the disease is much deadlier on men.

“Charles Manyuchi has set a very good example for men, it is reasonable for them to follow suit and get screened because at the moment they are lagging behind,” she said.
