Harare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South)- Nelson Chamisa has been appointed as the de facto MDC-T leader for the next 12 months replacing the departed veteran leader Morgan Tsvangirai who succumbed to the wrath of colon cancer in South African hospital Wednesday night.

The party’s National Council a held an emergency meeting Thursday afternoon at the party’s headquarters in Harare where the decision was made to elevate the young Chamisa.

Two other vise presedents Elias Mudzuri and Thokosani Khupe did not attend the meeting inspite of the fact that they had been notified about the meeting.



Chamisa had been in a power wrangle with his co-vise president who feel that they are more experienced than the current youthful leader.

The 40-year-old newly appointed leader has promised to win the forthcoming election on behalf of Tsvangirai.He also advocated for unity within the party and promised to urge Khupe and Muszuri to join and continue with the struggle.

“Tsvangirai’s legacy is the safe hands at all party levels.We will communicate everything to respect the family’s wishes.

“We are in a leadership crisis and the deliberations being made are eliminating all the noise.So we had to step in quickly to deal with the leadership crisis.

“Vice president Elias Mudzuri was aware of this meeting and im not sure why he is not in here, and Madam Khupe is making her way from Bulawayo to Harare.

“I will tell Mudzuri and Khupe to join forces.I know there are frailities ahead.It’s nolonger about party positions.We cannot all lead the party at one point.Tsvangirai’s shoes are too big.We should gift him an election victory,” said the youthful charismatic leader.

In 2003, Nelson Chamisa broke new ground in the politics of Zimbabwe by entering into the main stream political arena of the country.He us currently MP for Kuwadzana.He will battle it out with president Mnangagwa in this years’s harmonised plebiscite scheduled for later in the year.
