(News of The South) – Nadia Nakai won her first major music award at the South African Hip-Hop Awards which were held yesterday evening.
The hip-hop artist walked away with the Best Female award. This was mainly attributed to her newly released debut album, Nadia Naked.
Nadia expressed her profound gratitude after winning the award, “I finally won! Thank you guys for making this happen. You have made me so happy.”
Nadia’s music career started off when she was 16, In 2011 when she was 21 she managed to sign a contract with rapper, producer and businessman Sipho ‘Psyfo’ Ngwenya at Sid Records for four years where she officially kick-started her career as a rapper.
Close to the end of 2015, Nadia felt Psyfo was too busy and was not giving her brand enough attention, and that is when Cassper Nyovest grabbed the opportunity and signed her onto his label, Family Tree.
Nadia seized the moment and is now one of the most recognized female rappers in Africa. Nyovest also applauded the female rapper following her award, “Nadia won tonight, am celebrating for the next two years,” said Nyovest.
Apart from being nominated for best female, Nadia was also nominated for the best album of the year as well as the hustler of the year award. She was the only female in both categories.
