Museveni Proposes “Neutral City” to Resolve Tororo Dispute
By Correspondent
Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni has proposed a solution to the long-standing conflict between the Japadhola and Iteso communities in Tororo, suggesting that Tororo Municipality be elevated to a “neutral city.”
The President’s proposal involves creating three new districts: Mukuju, Mulanda, and a third, unnamed district. The President stated, “We have agreed on the principle, Tororo becomes a neutral city, and we create three new districts, one called Mukuju, another Mulanda, and a third one whose name should be neutral. Some people want to call it Tororo, but we are saying no, go and get a neutral name.”
President Museveni urged the communities to engage in peaceful discussions to determine the name of the third district. The proposed arrangement aims to balance the interests of both communities, with the Iteso community retaining Mukuju and also benefiting from the neutral Tororo City, while the Japadhola community would receive Mulanda and the third district.
