Mugabe Benefitting from Factional Fights

Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South) – Former Vice President Joyce Mujuru has accused President Robert Mugabe of indirectly fanning and benefitting from his party factional fights as he bids to remain in power till death.
Speaking in a video interview Mujuru, who now leads the National People’s Party (NPP) accused Mugabe of secretly enjoying the implosion of Zanu-PF which has resulted in ruckus of blow interchanges as allies fight each other.
“He (Mugabe) enjoys that (factionalism). He survives on people fighting each other in the party and that’s what keeps him going”
“He is the biggest beneficiary of the infighting in his party so he loves it so much,” said Mujuru.’
For his part, Mugabe, who has embarked on nationwide rallies to drum up support ahead of next year’s general elections, has urged the warring Zanu-PF factions to put aside their differences and focus on the 2018 plebiscite.”
Speaking at a rally recently the aged leader called for cool heads among the party members.
” We hear that there are some senior party officials holding some meetings at night denouncing other party leaders”
“Why, why, why? Please stop factionalism; it is not good for our party. Every party member must be loyal to the party not individuals,” said Mugabe at his last rally in the ancient city of Masvingo.
However the continued fighting, which has generally been divided between those supporting VP Mnangagwa’s Lacoste camp and those from its nemesis of G40, has led to the sprouting of conspiracy theories that Mugabe is supporting one of the two.
Mujuru further accused the 93 year old of being a loud mouth who implements nothing.
“He just talks about corruption but he doesn’t do anything to stop it,” said Mujuru.
Offering herself she promised to do more if elected in the 2018 elections.
“If I am elected president of this country, I will ensure that corruption is nipped in the bud within my first 100 days in office.”
“Dealing with corruption is the first thing that we need to do if we are serious about fixing the economy,” she said.
Corruption has remained one of the most formidable scourges to the country’s economic recovery with state assisted corruption crippling any progress.
