London, UK – Controversy has erupted surrounding the Zim Achievers UK Awards 2025, with nominee Martin Chitsa, widely known as “Mr Smooth,” expressing serious concerns about the handling of his nomination in the “Best Male Personality of the Year” category.
Mr. Smooth contacted News of the South from his residence in London, voicing his frustration over the discrepancy in how his name is presented. Despite his widespread recognition as “Mr Smooth,” the official nomination lists him as “Martin Chitsa.” This inconsistency, he claims, is preventing his supporters from casting their votes.

“I have got my fans and my people who want to vote for me but can’t vote for me because the voting link does not have my name, ‘Mr Smooth’,” he stated. “I find it disappointing that after highlighting this issue to Zim Achievers Awards, they don’t take it seriously.”

According to Mr. Smooth, he promptly alerted the awards organisers to the problem, who assured him they would rectify the error. However, as voting continues and other nominees accumulate votes, the issue remains unresolved. “This has disadvantaged me,” he lamented, suggesting that the ongoing problem significantly diminishes his chances of winning.

Adding to his grievances, Mr. Smooth highlighted further inconsistencies in his treatment compared to other nominees. He pointed out a promotional banner that listed him as an “attendee,” while other individuals in his category were correctly identified as “nominees.” Furthermore, he claims his profile is absent from the Zim Achievers UK Awards website, despite having submitted it to the organizers.

“Asked if he provided his profile to Zim Achievers, Mr Smooth confirmed giving them his profile,” he told News of the South.
The unresolved issues have left Mr. Smooth feeling disillusioned and questioning the fairness of the nomination process. “It probably means I am no longer standing a chance to win, and that’s bad,” he expressed.
This controversy raises questions about the accuracy and efficiency of the Zim Achievers UK Awards’ nomination and voting procedures. The inability of Mr. Smooth’s supporters to vote due to the name discrepancy, coupled with the alleged inconsistencies in his promotional material and website presence, could undermine the integrity of the “Best Male Personality of the Year” category.

Mr Smooth also highlighted how he was not informed that he was nominated, he only knew he was nominated by Taya Hughes of Seven Street in Liverpool who nominated for him. Mr smotth said the Zim Achievers had not infomed him and he finds it very unprofessional.

As the awards ceremony approaches, it remains to be seen how Zim Achievers UK will address these serious concerns raised by Mr. Smooth and ensure a fair and transparent process for all nominees and their supporters. The situation will undoubtedly be closely watched by the Zimbabwean community in the UK and beyond.
