Chelsea.(News Of The South) – The controversal Chelsea gaffer has openly criticised the importance of Fifa Ballon d’Or to football labling it as “bad for football” as he considers it highlights individualism rather than team-work.
Mourinho’s remarks come barely a few days after Uefa president Michel Platini claimed that a Germany player and not Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to scoop the 2014 individual accolade due to the country’s World Cup milestone in summer.
Meanwhile, on Friday Real Madrid launched an attack on Platini’s sentiments, arguing that they clearly felt their talisman Ronaldo was the most appropriate to land the award.
However, Jose Mourinho suggested that he wants to avoid such public outcry at Chelsea and he does not believe that the obsession that the clubs and players have over the Ballon d’Or is beneficial.
“This kind of trophy, the Ballon d’Or, is not good for football”, the Chelsea boss told reporters. “This is why I don’t care about it.
“Sometimes it looks like we are looking for stars, we are looking for some people to be more important than others. And this is not the culture we want in this club.
“I don’t care about it.But it’s there. It’s there as a consequence of the good work the team is doing. And, if they feel that, okay. It’s good for them.
“But the mentality here is not to be worried about that.Even less being obsessed with that.
Jose Mourinho won Fifa’s manager of the Year Accolade in 2010 after guiding Inter Milan to a historic treble success and has since played second fiddle and third from there.
