Chitapi said he needed time to write a full ruling in the matters after the journalists’ lawyers led by Beatrice Mtetwa urged that the film maker who is facing allegations of inciting the public commit public violence was a proper candidate for bail.
“After hearing submissions from both the State and defence lawyers, i Will deliver my judgement on Thursday. I need to write the entire judgement,” said Chitapi.
The journalist was arrested 14 days ago ahead of the planned 31st July mass protests on allegations of inciting public violence to effect regime change in the Southern African nation.
The Zimbabwean government has come under fire for arresting and abducting journalists and opposition leaders for exercising their freedoms and rights.
Chin’ono was arrested with opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume who is also in custody as his bail application was denied by the courts.
Government critics have blamed the authorities for arresting journalists like Chin’ono for exposing corruption by officials in the health ministry.
