Harare, Zimbabwe. (News Of The South) – Sacked Vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa has returned back to Zimbabwe and is being briefed at the Manayame airbase as the army has taken over Harare.

Mnangagwa was fired last week by president Robert Mugabe and has manaaged to return without any impediment. Should there be a transition in Zimbabwe that puts Mnangagwa into power he is likely to have the backing of neighouring countries especially the biggest and richest.

Tuesday night saw the taking over of the state Broadcaster ZBC by the army who have since denied they carried out a coup but were seeking to pacify the degenerating political social and economic situation.

“It is not a military takeover of government,” an army spokesman said in a televised statement. “We wish to assure the nation that his excellency the president… and his family are safe and sound and their security is guaranteed.

“We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country in order to bring them to justice.

“As soon as we have accomplished our mission we expect that the situation will return to normalcy.”

The address came hours after several loud explosions echoed across central Harare and troops seized the headquarters of the ZBC, Zimbabwe’s state broadcaster.
