Harare, Zimbabwe (News of the South)- Norton legislator-elect Temba Mliswa has vowed to continue the same developmental initiative which has endeared him with the people of Norton before in the aftermath of his resounding win in the just ended elections.
In a staggering feat of political acumenship Mliswa, an independent, defeated both MDC Alliance and ZANU PF with over 16 000 votes.
The second runner up Samuel Matemera of MDC Alliance lagged behind with just above 7 000 votes with Special Advisor to President Mnangagwa Chris Mutsvangwa a distant third with a little over 4000 votes.
The result, a surprise for many who predicted an Alliance win, has led to fears that Mliswa may relax speculation which he has dismissed.
“I have always stated that the chief reason for my standing in Norton is the desire to bring change and development. I could have gone and contested in Hurungwe West but felt I had a special task here in Norton”.
“Thus during this 5 year term I will be focused on the same developmental initiatives that I have been focused on with no bias against anyone”.
“After the elections I’m now the representative for Norton, all Nortonians I represent them irrespective of the personal political affiliations. This is the time for progressive work and not politicking”, he said.
Mliswa has brought a breath of fresh air to Zimbabwean politics driving a development focused version that is at variants with most politicians most of whom use the aftermath of winning as time to pay back their supporters and punishing their opponents.
Prior to winning Mliswa has driven the grading of roads, drilling of boreholes, building of schools and created scholarships for thousands of students.
This has won his a cross section of supporters across the country culminating in the blistering win in the elections.
Mliswa is also set to be the only independent legislator again in the Parliament after all the aspiring legislators across the country failed to win. (Zimbabwe).
