Harare,Zimbabwe (News of the South)- Independent legislative candidate for Norton Temba Mliswa on Saturday emphatically hit back at his opponents with a massive rally at Koshens grounds that matched the earlier MDC Alliance rally addressed by Nelson Chamisa.
The former ZANU PF Mashonaland West Chairman belittled the importance of parties by holding his rally on the same day the two main parties MDC Alliance and ZANU PF also had star rallies and drew a staggering crowd of over 8 000 people in the small town.
The move spoke a lot about the combative legislator’s brand in the Monday election and is a clear testament of the work that he has done in uplifting Norton putting opponents Samuel Matemera and Chris Mutsvangwa into the shadows.
Speaking at the event Mliswa thanked the people for coming out in their numbers and pledged to fulfil his role after winning.
“You know my reputation even from Hurungwe West, I have the works to testify”.
“I don’t go to Parliament to sleep like others who have just completed 5 years without any input in the House of Assembly but I wake them up with my arguments as I represent you”.
“Here I have already pushed that Norton Hospital be made a General Hospital, I have had roads done, the mortuary is now working, school expansion programs are underway and a lot more”, he said.
Mliswa added that he had a heart for his job and that was the reason he had come to contest in Norton instead of Hurungwe.
“I had a ready seat in Hurungwe due to my track record such that I even campaigned and won it for my sister. If I just wanted to be in Parliament I could have contested there and won easily”.
“However I came here since I recognised that I have a duty to uplift Norton.
They are special cases of land barons here that I intend to deal with, issues of title deeds and water, all those are matters on my heart”, he added.
Mliswa added that “I’m not looking for any financial gains as I can find those elsewhere”. (Zimbabwe)
