Norton legislator Mr Temba Mliswa has won a High Court application through which he sought to bar a land developer in Kingsdale Farm from demolishing houses.

The government acquired the farm in 2006 at the height of the land reform programme and parcelled it out to housing co-operatives and other private purchasers.

Several allottees took occupation of the land and have since built their structures.

Of late, however, the developer has been pushing for the houses to be demolished due to differences over payments.

Writing on social media site, Twitter, Mr Mliswa revealed that the High Court has stayed the execution of demolitions whilst ordering the return of assets that had been taken from residents.

“In judgement just handed down at High Court, attachment of property in the Kingsdale matter has stayed pending determination of the final matter. Respondents have been ordered to return any assets removed”.

Contacted for comment on the landmark ruling which brings respite to the people of Kingsdale the legislator called the ruling a victory for the people.

“It’s justice for the people of Norton Kingsdale, we call it the Gaza Strip we keep fighting until what belongs to them is given.

“I always say this that the process used to acquire that land was fraudulent and I’m sure that the justice delivery system will speak of that in terms of their judgement.

“We await the judgement and I think it is important that people remain patient and allow the verdict. Its victory for the people of Norton”, he said.

The developer is yet to do much in the area with dust roads and an absence of reticulation facilities making it a health hazard especially in the coming rainy season.
