Gweru, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) -Although he has achieved incredible accomplishment, you would hardly hear High Voltage Poets Founder and Director, Dumisani Ndlovu speaks about his achievements in life, let alone blow his own trumpet.
The multi-talented arts practitioner, a published poet, arts director, playwright and widely published scribe and poet, a journalist and a community and rural arts development advocate, Ndlovu has incredible achievements to share.
In a thirty minute interview with The Feed Zimbabwe, this passionate artist who is also the co-founder of the popular Gweru lunch hour poetry session dubbed “Lunch With Words” did not hide his excitement on why he wants to expand the weekly poetry tutorial into a fully fledged arts academy.
“Lunch with Words is the brainchild of Midlands Poets leaders, that is myself, Laben,Panashe Kapeta and Siphosami Ndlovu. We started this in order to identify, nurture and promote both rural and urban novice theatre and poetry artists,” said Ndlovu.
Ndlovu said they are far more impressed to realise their dream surpassed their expectations.
“This is quite encouraging. Now that we have seen our nurtured artists grow to represent our province at National StarBrite Competitions in less than a year after establishment,” he said.
Rather in a poetic fashion Ndlovu added they have realised their poetic works is characterised by euphoria and the insertion of the amnesic imagination that feed into the national consciousness status.
“Ours is a fresh out-of-the box, revolutionary, mind- boggling and twisting juggle of words platform which is decorated by similes and metaphors. We are now looking at transforming the platform into an arts academy,’’ said Ndlovu.
Core founder, Laben Kapeta said with taking our talents to nation and the rest of the world in mind, we appeal to the corporate world and donor community to help fund our project as we would want it transformed into an academy.
“After having acquired degrees in various faculties I realized that there was a vacuum in our education system. In our African community people were taught in order to go and seek employment. As a result I and my colleagues realized the need to establish a poetry training institution where we can train people on professional and effective ways to write and perform poetry,” said Kapeta.
The Street Poet as Kapeta is affectionately known expressed interest to open an arts academy in Gweru and Shurugwi rural areas where young talents were identified and nurtured in a bid to bridge the gap between urban and rural development.
Lesson Dumoluhe is one of shining stars from the remote area of Dorset in Shurugwi identified and nurtured by Lunch With Words through the entity’s rural projects coordinator, Siphosami Ndlovu.
