Shurugwi, Zimbabwe (News Of The South) – – Although Culture week celebrations in the Midlands Provincereported a 5.7% decline in attendance, the belated one day programme was widely regarded as one of the most organised in recent years.
Provincial Arts Officer, Reward Shockson hailed the quality of displays and performances exhibited at the event held at Vungwi Primary School in Chachacha, Shurugwi.
Although scores of bitter residence blamed the low turnout to poor communication by the arts motherboard, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), shockson refuted the allegations saying the decline could have been caused by three funeral proceedings that were underway
in the area.
“Even though statistically, the attendance experienced a slight decline, it was an event worth attending. The performances were great. Participants were from across the Province, “he said.
Shockson further said he was also impressed to have organized such a successful event where the programme featured marimba music and dance and a range of productions from many of Midlands’s top traditional and contemporary institutions and independent companies such as Matinunura
dance Impali primary school, renowned local musicians, traditional dance and poets,”
Addressing audience on behalf of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Dr Larry, and Larry Mavima, Director in his office, Clayton Diwa said he was happy to witness a number of activities that express cultural heritage and humanity, augment and transmit though different cultural expressions by using diverse modes of creation.
An array of activities to celebrate cultural diversity was lined up to ensure that the launch be spectacular and depict the diverse esthetic cultural values and norms that define Zimbabweans.
High-voltage Poets, Matinunura Dance, Vungwi Primary School and Impali Primary School gave brilliant performances that brought audience at the edge of their seats and asking for some more.
Multitudes from all corners of Midlands Province converged at Vungwi Primary School in Shurugwi l to mark Culture Week 2019 commemoration, among the high delegation who attended the event were Midlands State University’s Pro-vice chancellor, Professor Vhiriri, chief Nhema, Chief Ngungumbane ,Chief Banga and Shurugwi North MP Cde Nyathi and Shurugwi South MP Edmund Mukaratigwa’ representative.
