Chamisa was on leave following the death of his mother Gogo Alice Chamisa and his uncle last month.

He had handed power over to his Vice President Professor Welshman Ncube to take some time to mourn in peace and undisturbed by his busy political and legal careers.

Fadzayi Mahere, the party’s spokesperson issued a statement announcing the return of the youthful opposition leader.

“The MDC-Alliance welcomes back President Nelson Chamisa from his leave of absence. President Chamisa took time to mourn his beloved mother and, shortly after, the sudden death of his uncle.
President Chamisa will resume his official duties on Friday 7th August.

“The People’s President extends his sincere and heartfelt thanks to the loving people of Zimbabwe and beyond for standing with the family during this difficult family tragedy.

“The winds of change are calling. Zimbabwean Lives Matter. It’s time to win Zimbabwe for change,”reads a statement released by Advocate Mahere.

The firebrand opposition leader announced yesterday that he had returned to the capital Harare from his rural home in Gutu and went back straight to Harare Remand Prison to visit jailed journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and another opposition leader Jacob Ngarivhume.

Chamisa leads the largest opposition party in the Southern African nation and is believed to have won the controversial presidential election of 2018 which he claims was rigged by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission in favour of President Mnangagwa.
