Malawi (News of The South) – Barely some days after the Central Region Football Association (CRFA) chairperson Austin Ajawa unveiled his manifesto ‘Collective Football Development Agenda Is Possible’ (Team Work) which is a guiding tool in the implementation of the region’s football development programs for next four years, some operatives believed to be Malawi Congress Party (MCP) operatives have started sending him death threats.
Confirming the development, Ajawa did not disclose the identity of the MCP officials (Parliamentarian) behind all the death threats made to him through anonymous (private) phone calls and text messages.
However, Ajawa gave a hint of a possible MCP parliamentarian whom he described as one of the frustrated politicians who was also busy meddling into the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) elective general meeting that was held at Nkopola, Mangochi in December last year.
“It is true, I have been receiving death threats from some quarters, but that parliamentarian who have all along been meddling in football affairs of the country are also in forefront hiring thugs to harass those of us who seem to be making progress in football development,” Ajawa said
Conquering with Ajawa’s complaints, several districts and regional committee officials who spoke on condition of anonymity have also confirmed that indeed some politicians are sending death threats to them (Affiliates) if they dare fail choosing an MCP member at the helm of the region’s football governing body.
“They said ‘ndale zinasintha’ as such there is need to choose a member of the ruling party (MCP) at the helm of association and if we fail to do that this time around then we should consider ourselves dead,
“We are also promised Medef (Neef) loans by the MP (name withheld) but only if we vote for James Mwenda as CRFA chairperson, so we are wondering whether this is football or party politics,” said one of the affiliates from a distinct committee.
Our investigation team has also established that the same MCP parliamentarian is the one behind the confusion at Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) where a few selfish association officials are calling for the association’s extraordinary general meeting on August 18, 2020 in Nkhatabay with the aim of conducting an illegal election of the association’s office bearers.
Meanwhile, the NRFA still remain rebellious to FAM’s advice not to go ahead with the plans of holding any meeting soon considering that the office bearers have only three weeks to go before their Mandatory period of office gets expired and also other processes like nomination of candidates is yet to be endorsed.
In his colourful manifesto, Ajawa promised to take the beautiful game of football in the central region to its highest height by among others instituting a K4 million football league in each district of the region.
It remains unclear considering some unconfirmed reports suggesting that former FAM first vice president, James Mwenda who is said to be poised to contests on the position of CRFA chairperson at this year’s CRFA’s elective general assembly will come up with another manifesto.
In a run up to the December FAM elective general assembly, Mwenda campaigned with his manifesto dubbed ‘Rebirth of Football’ which was completely outshined by that of the association’s president Walter Nyamilandu’s ‘Raising the Bar’.
