Zanu PF’s only Harare Councillor Martin Sunungukai Matinyanya from Mbare Constituency’s Ward 4 said he is prepared to work with his MDC Alliance counterparts for progress and development of the City, setting aside political differences.
Matinyanya said this after making the oath of office during the swearing in of councillors elected in the 30 July harmonised elections, which took place at the Town House in this afternoon.
In an interview with News of the South, Matinyanya said he buried differences and misunderstandings of the past to focus on moving the city forward.
“Although am only one among Mostly MDC councillors, they will not stop me when we start working towards service delivery because when we are in that chamber we would have set aside political differences focusing on council business, so our council is supposed to move forward positively,” Matinyanya said.
He went on to thank the electorate in his ward for showing confidence in him by voting him in office while the rest of the Harare electorate voted opposition councillors.
“We have projects and initiatives that we had been working on before elections and now we want to work on completion of these and begin other jobs,” said Matinyanya.
Zanu PF supporters from Mbare who were present at the swearing in ceremony pledged their support to Matinyanya as he starts his term of office and implored council stakeholders not to sabotage him on the basis of party lines.
Harare in recent years has been characterised by poor service delivery which resulted in recurring outbreaks of Typhoid, Cholera and other diseases especially in Mbare among other high density suburbs.
