Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC), Bulawayo Chapter will hold this year’s Matabeleland Regional Annual Dinner and Business Awards (MABAs).

This year’s theme is: International Synergies, Local Competitiveness, Global Relevance-The Remedy to Zimbabwe’s Liquidity and Industrial Revolution.

Speaking to Happenings Magazine today, ZNCC’s Matabeleland Regional Manager Mduduzi Ncube described the event as a crucial for enhancement of business linkages through networking.

He said: ‘The aim is to bring together Matabeleland decision makers to engage, network and exchange contacts as we are the voice of business representing the Matabeleland Region. ’

Some of the awards include Businessman of the year award, Businesswoman of the year award, Manager of the year, Entrepreneur of the year and Exporter of the Year-Manufacturing sector.

…Expectations

More than 500guests are expected to grace this year’s event which will be held at the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel on the 29th of May 2015. Ncube revealed that ‘besides networking, these awards are a platform to recognise those who excelled in 2014, exchange ideas, contacts and also to advertise your business’

…Nomination process

Explaining the nomination process, Ncube said ‘nomination forms are sent to the corporate business who submit their nominees. An independent adjudication team comprising of around 7 members then assess the company and individual profiles of the nominees before coming up with the top three. The committee changes every year’

He further highlighted that the committee is made up of experience professionals with diverse skills that include lawyers, bankers and auditors. He clarified that a member of the ZNCC presidium always is part of the committee for purposes of continuity and clarity in the whole process.

These accolades are awarded to businesses and business personnel who excel in various categories regardless of whether the company or individual is a member of ZNCC or not.

…Previous winners

Some of the winners for the year 2013 included J R Goddard of J R Goddard Contracting (Businessman of the year), Flattela Nleya (Business woman of the year) and Mr. Jonathan Hudson (Manager of the year) to mention but a few.

Laserline Trophy won the exporter of the year under tourism whilst Holiday Inn got the Corporate Social Responsibility award.

Ncube expressed that there are four regions under ZNCC which are Matabeleland Region, Manicaland Region, Midlands Region and Mashonaland Region.

…Harsh economic conditions

Regional Marketing and Client Relations Manager Velile Dube revealed that the harsh economic conditions have not spared ZNCC as some of the traditional sponsors were closed down. These included the financial institutions Tetrad bank, Trust bank, Metbank and Capital Bank that are no longer operational.

He added that as the voice of Business, ZNCC has programmes that advocacy and lobby to improve the operational environment for businesses. Furthermore the business representative body engages on matchmaking and facilitation for purposes of connecting businesses locally and abroad through similar or sister chambers.- Happennings
