Tinoonga Mawere|Masvingo Province, regarded as a drought- prone zone, is in dire need of food aid, government sources have revealed.

Government sources at Benjamin Burombo Building in the ancient city of Masvingo have said crops in the province are now a total write-off, prompting relevant ministries to step up efforts to engage various stakeholders in a bid to combat drought.

Bikita Distract Administrator Innocent Matingwina yesterday described the food situation in the area as critical.

Matingwina has also disclosed that several families in Bikita District are facing starvation.

“We hope that various stakeholders and relief organisations will quickly come up with drought mitigation measures,” said Matingwina.

In Chivi District, relief organisations have already begun assessment programmes.
