Port Elizabeth, South Africa. (News of The South) – Chippa United “Chilli Boys” coach Norman Mapeza yesterday celebrated another League victory after his Boys beat second placed Supersport United 1 – 0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium yesterday evening.

Mapeza’s charges were quick out of the blocks and came very close to grabbing the lead in just the second minute after William Twala curled a beautiful strike towards the top corner but SuperSport shot-stopper Ronwen Williams was equal to the effort.

Chippa should have been a goal ahead at the midway point after Sipho Mbule’s back pass was intercepted which led to Chidi Kwem ultimately going through on the right side of the box but his shot was saved by Williams.

However, the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was finally beaten with three minutes remaining of the first stanza after Xolani Mahola curled a low left-footed into the bottom corner after combining with Meshack Maphangule which eventually saw the hosts going to the break leading 1 – 0.

Supersport’s first chance at goal in the second half came through Tebeho Mokena’s freekick in the 55th minute with Clayton Daniels putting in a close-in header which he put on the roof of the net.

Bradley Grobler had a powerful close range shot, soon after but it was bravely blocked by Gerald Modisane as SuperSport began to show some belated enterprise.

Supersport was still not sharp enough to break down a Chippa defence that has not conceded for five games in a row now, which ultimately resulted in a 1 – 0 loss.

“I was talking to the players straight after the match and telling them we have to remain humble, In football‚ this is the most dangerous time.

When things are going like this‚ it is very easy to switch off‚ so what’s important is to maintain the discipline and the positive attitude,” said Mapeza.

Since he joined the Chilli Boys this season Mapeza has managed to rejuvenate the club which has now seen it finishing 10th on the Absa Premier League this year with 17 points from 15 games.
