Mutare, Zimbabwe. (News of The South) – A suspected ritual murderer appeared before a Mutare Magistrate facing one count of murder for allegedly brutally murdering as well as mutilating a 12 year old boy.
The case of Jonathan Makuwaza’s (55) of Zimunya, left the court in chills as he appeared before Magistrate Ms Sekai Chiundura, who did not ask the accused to plea.
He was remanded in custody to April 30 waiting for trial.
Chiundura advised him to seek legal representation and apply for bail at the High Court.
Makuwaza allegedly killed a 12-year-old Langton Musere removing his head, left limbs, a buttock, teeth, nails, heart and private parts using a kitchen knife and razor blade for ritual purposes.
The court heard that, Makuwaza struck him twice on the head with a stone as he grabbed him by the throat with the other hand.
Representing the state prosecutor Douglas Matiure alleged that Makuwaza who is part of a ritual gang, grabbed Musere from a roadside as he attended to his satchel as he was walking home from school.
They allegedly bundled him away into a nearby mountain where Makuwaza struck him twice on the head with a stone as he choked him with his other hand.
After killing him, the court heard, the boy was laid on a plastic where they cut his body parts for use in their rituals using a kitchen knife and a razor blade.
Makuwaza, the State maintains, used a kitchen knife to cut out Musere’s teeth, mouth, private parts, left arm and leg, nails, buttock and open up his back to pull out his heart.
He then used a razor blade to cut out his left shoulder as well as his head.
Makuwaza and his gang then took away the parts and dumped his body near Murare River from where it was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition.
