Members of Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters party were today arrested in Cape Town for throwing faeces at the Sanlam head office in Bellville, Cape Town.

Sanlam’s spokesperson, Ainsley Moos, said that between 20 and 30 protesters wearing red EFF berets gathered outside the company’s head office in Bellville, Cape Town, at about 10.30am with three tyres and containers filled with faeces.

Police were immediately alerted and a scuffle ensued, after which some protesters managed to run away while others were arrested.

A container full of faeces was dumped near the office’s entrance.

The party’s provincial convenor, Nazier Petersen, confirmed that some members took part in the protest and were arrested.

Petersen said the party wanted the arrested members to be released from police custody.

Moos said the incident was related to an employee who was contracted to Sanlam but terminated the contract.

Moos said the incident lasted 15 minutes – City Press
