Lilongwe, Malawi. (News of The South ) -Government of Malawi is said to be failing to pay the civil servants including soldiers of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) their March, monthly salaries.
The country’s vice president who is also the presidential candidate, Saulos Klauz Chilima told the gathering in Dedza district on Saturday during his campaign meeting that government is very careless when it comes to salaries meant for the civil servants.
Chilima said it is very disappointing that civil servants including teachers and soldiers are being taken for granted.
“Where in the world can sensible people tale teachers and the army to an extent of failing to pay them their monthly salaries on time? “ Chilima asked.
The vice president further expressed disappointment with the amount of money that is deducted from the peace keeping mission allowances which government deduct from the soldiers.
“It is risky for someone to get involved in a peace keeping mission where a lot of dangerous things happen, and yet someone is just busy making unreasonable deductions to their allowances,“ Chilima said.
At this point the vice president made an assurance that once voted into power he shall direct anyone not tamper with international peace keeping allowances meant for the solders.
The country minister of finance and economic development Goodal Gondwe has been on record several times that every coin in Malawi is subject for the deduction of tax.
Soldiers od the Malawi Defence Force are currently taking part in the peace keeping mission in a number of countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
