A 33 year old man Sibusiso Majola who used a scarf to strangle a fellow passenger on a bus which caused the victim to lose consciousness has been imprisoned for eight years.
Majola of no fixed address, was handed the sentenceon Wednesday for attempted murder at Isleworth Crown Court over the attack that was carried out in December 2012.
The man was caught on CCTV footage in the unprovoked attack which lasted about 30 seconds following the bus leaving London Victoria Station.
The 37-year-old male victim, a security guard on his way to work for the first day of a new job, was strangled with the scarf after exchanging words with Majola, who asked his victim if he was “mad?”
Shortly afterwards, Majola produced the scarf and strangled his victim while saying: “I will kill you.”
After passing out and regaining consciousness, the victim managed to free himself and ran away from the bus in West Cromwell Road.
Majola remained on the bus and continued his journey.
He was arrested after officers launched a public appeal to help track him down – Majola handed himself into a police station on December 23.
Investigating officer Thomas Norman said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack on a man who was travelling to work some distance away from where he lives in order to financially support his family.
“Although the physical injuries he sustained were not life-threatening, he continues to suffer physiological distress and has only recently been able to return to work as a security guard.”
