MUTARE. (News Of The South) – At a glittering occasion where resilience, innovation, co-operation and business acumen were celebrated, a young transport magnet was crowned Manicaland businessman of the year.
Tino Machakaire of Tinmac Motors scooped the annual provincial Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) at an event hosted over the weekend.
Top Manicaland business people who have managed to stand the heat of the economic meltdown and kept the wheels of the economy rolling.
Machakaire added another feather in his cap, having been crowned 1st runner up young businessman of the year.
He said this award was recognition of hard work and team effort of staff as he urged other businesses to soldier on amid liquidity crunch without taking short cuts.
“I am very excited about this award and I want to encourage all other businesses so that Manicaland becomes best but let’s not do short cuts. Everything we are doing should be above board,” he said.
Referring to the liquidity crisis and the difficult economic tide Machakaire said: “This will pass let’s soldier on,” adding “I will be back for this prize next year with the team effort we will win.”
As varied as the awards were, ZNCC said these businesses represented a multi faceted domestic solution, if properly streamlined and afforded investment opportunities, to economic problems affecting Zimbabwe.

In the women’s category Ms Molly Mupfunya who runs Milestone Group of Schools walked away with the Business woman of the year prize.
To cap here memorable night Mupfunya was voted as the winner of People’s choice award, winning hearts of business people who voted for her.
Mrs Nancy Saungweme of Aloe Enterprise was the first runner up.
Mr. Khumbula was the overall winner of the Rural businessperson of the Year category while Mr. Madziro was the 1st runner up in the same category.
Under the Small Medium Enterprise (SMS) category, Mr. Gwenzi of Gwenzi hardware was the overall winner of this category.
Other business people who made it in this category are Mr. Max Marime of Etrite Enterprise,Mr Prince Saurombe who runs Mark Brands Investments/ta Saurombe Ecocash Agent,Mrs Sarah Chiwanza of the Universal Multi Media Deco and Mrs. Ruth Mbengo of Delmon Procurement.
Mrs. Loveness Nyamundanda of W&L Hardware won the Entrepreneur of the year while Mr. William Young who runs Halsteads was the 1st runners up.
Tongaat Hullet scooped the best Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year Programme while Net One and S4S were 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.
Under the exporter’s category, Zambezi Hunters won the Best Hunting Exporter of the Year while SSG Safaris was the 1st Runner up Best Hunting exporter of the year.
Tingamira Tea Estates emerged the winner in the Agricultural Exporter of the Year while Eastern Highlands plantation and Tanganda Tea Company were 1st and 2nd run ups respectively in the same category.
Wattle Company won the Improved Agricultural Exporter of the Year.
In the manufacucturing sector, Manica Boards and Doors won the Best exporter of the year. Border Timber and Wattle Company came 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.
Allied Timbers were the most improved manufacturing exporter of the year.
The Horticulture category, Zim Flora Co-op won the Exporter of the Year category while Matanuska trailed behind. Tsanga Flora Pvt Limited came as the 2nd runner up.
In the mining category, Mbada Diamonds won the Best Mining Exporter while Anjin Investments were 1st runners up.
Diamond Mining Corporation (DMC) was voted second Runners up while Marange Resources was the most improved Mining Exporter of the Year.
Under the SME exporter, Agro Commodities Pvt Ltd scooped the award while Capital Timbers and Makandi Estates Pvt Ltd was 2nd runner up.
Mr. B Madziro won the Young Male Entrepreneur of the year while Abel Zhakata the proprietor of the Villa Sport settled for 1st runner up.
In the female category, Mrs Marange of Busy Bee Nursery emerged the winner while Bridget Chikoto of Glamhouse was the 1st runner up in the same category.
In the Wholesale award of Distinction, SISCO scooped the prize while Metro Peech and Brown and N Richards won the 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.
Rusape Town Council won the Best Services Excellent in Local Government and Utilities while Makoni Rural District Council was rewarded for being Best Service Excellent in Local Government and Utilities.
City of Mutare could not be outclassed as it settled for Outstanding Innovation in Local Governance and Utilities.
Tinmac Motors scooped the Transporter of the Year Award while Chikwenha Transport also won the same award under the SME.
