Zimbabwe (News of The South) Land Reform remains irreversible with Government efforts now focused on improving agricultural productivity, but it is still a questionable issue as to why the whites should get back the land.
The land reversal issue has been viewed with so many different perspectives as to what should be done and why.
In a joint statement on Monday, the ministries of finance and agriculture said, some black farmers who received land under the program would be now removed. This seems unfair as most of them actually paid for these farms back then in the early 2000s.
“To allow the former owners “to regain possession” of their land, the government will revoke offers made to black farmers currently occupying the farms and “offer them alternative land elsewhere”, the statement said.
Meanwhile, different comments and reactions on social media are blazing.
“Arikuti no land reform akaguta. What about the people on the ground”
“War vets are the ones who destroyed most of the farms by burning them and now Zimbabweans are in denial of their works”.
The above two statements, clearly shows how much Zimbabweans are in need of this land reversal as since the departure of the white people nothing productive has been done, increase rate of maize importation and many more and no one had a clearer vision and failed to calculate how this was going to affect the economy.
However, on the other hand, some are saying no compensation should be done because the land was first taken away from them.
The land was first grabbed from the fore fathers, and no one compensated them when the whites took over.
Most families perished in the war liberation and they were not compensated. The question for most is why we fought for Zimbabwe when at the end we will give back to the white people.
Some are saying that, we do not need the white people to do things for ourselves but we should be proud, black entrepreneurs. More is still to follow, whether the reversal is going to be final or not.
