Residents from the surrounding communities near Mabvuku and Tafara in Harare have raised alarm over pollution by Zimbabwe‘s major cement making company Lafarge Cement formerly Circle Cement.
According to the documents in our possession, Lafarge Cement have adequate remedial measures to mitigate against the impact of pollution on human health but have been implicated leading to residents raising alarm.
News Of The South was able to interview Mr Moyo who happens to be one of the residents who is also a retired employee of Lafarge.
Moyo stressed that long back Circle Cement used to help in these communities in terms of upgrading infrastructure and community development projects but since it was rebranded to Lafarge, the company divorced itself from being involved in the community.
‘Poor roads, limited medication in community hospitals and dilapidated infrastructure are typical of these communities include Mabvuku and Tafara’ said Moyo.
Lafarge Cement Company has also been sued during the past years by the Environment and Pollution Control Act of Zambia which later led to their adjustments.
