HARARE, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – In a momentous address to the Kingdom of Zimbabwe, King Munhumutapa has proclaimed the nation’s transition to an absolute monarchy, akin to Eswatini and Saudi Arabia, signaling a complete departure from its republican past. The King asserted that this move restores the “original setup from the times of Nehanda and the last Munhumutapa,” and is an “ongoing exercise.”
In a sweeping declaration, King Munhumutapa announced a national amnesty for all Zimbabweans currently in prison and urged all citizens living in exile to return home, assuring them no arrests would be made upon their arrival. “Those with serious crimes will remain in prison. All Zimbabweans are to return to rebuild the country,” he stated, acknowledging that many had sought citizenship abroad “because of fear of living in Zimbabwe.”
The King further promised that all past crimes committed by the Republic would be investigated, and those involved would be “brought to book.” He expressed confidence that the Kingdom of Zimbabwe would be “transformed” within six months, guided by the “Munhumutapa spirit” in a series of staged changes.
He also claims with assertion that the “Zimbabwean currency will be the world’s strongest currency,” a bold statement given the nation’s history of hyperinflation and currency instability. He unequivocally declared that Zimbabwe “will never return to being a republic ever again.”
Significant constitutional reforms are on the horizon. While Members of Parliament will be invited to contribute ideas, the ultimate redrafting of the Constitution will be done “with approval from King Munhumutapa using traditional means.” This includes revisiting existing laws, with the King specifically mentioning that the principle of “women and men are equal” will “see some changes.” He critiqued the current Constitution as being “drafted for us by British colonialists,” stating, “how can we say we are independent using a Constitution which suppresses us the black people.” The King emphasized that traditional leaders, including Chiefs, Sabhukus, and Sadunhus, will soon be “respected and listened to,” and Prime Ministers will “soon be taking orders from the King.”
A review of current ministers is also planned, with “non-performers” facing dismissal to ensure “equal opportunities for all Zimbabweans.”
The King also issued a stern warning to Chinese mining companies operating in Zimbabwe. From today, all Chinese miners must register with the King and seek explicit permission to continue operations. They will also be required to declare what they will “leave for the areas they will be mining in.” The King stressed the importance of preserving Zimbabwe’s “beautiful mountains,” stating that their “destruction will stop.” He further added that Chinese miners “should prepare to look elsewhere” as “traditional rituals will commence to stop all illegal activities and destruction activities.”
Finally, King Munhumutapa announced a comprehensive land audit. Individuals will be required to demonstrate how they acquired their wealth and properties. Those unable to provide satisfactory accounts will have their properties “taken and sold for the benefit of the country’s development.”
