Harare, Zimbabwe (News of The South) – Friday, May 30, 2025 – In a powerful address delivered today, King Munhumutapa has urged Zimbabwean Chiefs to embrace their role as custodians of tradition and culture, emphasizing their position as fathers of the land, above partisan politics. The King reminded the Chiefs of their duty to uphold the Zimbabwean Constitution and adhere to the Traditional Leaders Act.

Extending his message beyond Zimbabwe’s borders, King Munhumutapa made a direct appeal to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and traditional leaders in South Africa, addressing the plight of Zimbabweans facing xenophobia in the country.

“Xenophobia is not acceptable,” declared King Munhumutapa. He attributed the root cause of such divisions to the colonial era, stating that “It was brought about by the division of Africa through colonialism caused by colonialists who had no love but hatred and spirit of destruction.”

Asserting his historical significance and influence, King Munhumutapa stated, “I am King Munhumutapa and I am back. I rule the various parts of the African continent of which South Africa falls under the rule of King Munhumutapa.”

He passionately called upon other African leaders and Kings to remember the fundamental unity of the continent’s people. “Africans are one family, and we must love and look after each other,” he emphasized.

King Munhumutapa concluded his address with the Shona proverb, “Ndinonzi Chengause manhanga hapana risina mhodzi, ndinoda munhu wese,” which translates to “I am called Chengause, pumpkins do not refuse seeds, I love everyone.” This powerful message underscored his call for inclusivity and compassion across the African continent.

The King’s intervention comes at a time of heightened concern regarding the treatment of Zimbabwean nationals in South Africa. His strong words and historical context aim to foster a sense of shared identity and responsibility among African leaders to address the issue of xenophobia and promote unity. The impact of his appeal on both Zimbabwean and South African authorities and traditional leaders remains to be seen.
