South Africa. (News of The South) – Kenya have won the just ended Africa Men’s Sevens tournament which was being held in South Africa.



14 teams took part in the tourney that comprise of Botswana, Côte D’Ivoire,Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Defending champions, Zimbabwe, who were the tournament’s favorites stumbled on the 11th hour when they lost 21 -12 to Uganda in the semifinals.

Kenya win Rugby Sevens

The former defending champions eventually secured the third spot after they edged Madagascar 15 – 12.

As a result of today’s emphatic victory, Kenya have booked themselves a place at the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Kenya’s sevens coach Paul Feeney was impressed with the result,”we were a bit sluggish in the beginning, but we improved and scored some good tries. Our passing was nice and crispy which was very pleasing to watch.”

Uganda, together with Zimbabwe who finished third, will have a second chance to reach the Olympics when they participate in the Repechage tournament against best losers from other regions.
